The Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya will entertain applications from Suitably qualified persons for the following post up to 30 .12 .2011

Technical Officer -Grade II Segment “B”

Qualifications:
(a) Three (03) G.C.E. (Advanced Level) passes in Science subjects (Physics ,Chemistry, Biology /Mathematics ) in one sitting;
                                                               AND
(b) Passed a skill oriented formal programme of training relevant to the post at least of one year (full-time) duration or equivalent. The training programme for this purpose should be acceptable to the PGIS.         

Note:
Preference will be given to the candidates who have National Diploma in Technology in Electrical / Electronics specialization or its equivalent qualifications and to those with experience in Physical, Chemical, Geo - Engineering Sciences and computer laboratories.

Age - not more than 45 years
Salary Scale:  Rs. 16260 - 5 x130, 2 x 155, 15 x 185, 19 x 245 - 24650 (U – MT-1)
In addition to the above mentioned salary the cost of living allowance and 5% allowance of basic salary approved by the Government would also be paid.

Appointment under ‘Segment B’ of the Technical Officers’ Service will be as “Trainee Technical Officer” for a period of 3 years. At the conclusion of training those who have gained competence in laboratory techniques, indenting, maintenance of inventories and ability to type in English will be confirmed and appointment made to permanent posts of “Technical Officer Grade II – Segment B”.

The maximum age limit will not apply to employees of Government Departments / Corporations. However, they should forward their applications through the Heads of respective Departments / Corporations along with a certified statement of the present salary particulars. They may send an advanced copy of an application to this institute directly. The applications which are not received through the proper channel on or before the closing date will not be considered.

The selected candidates will become contributors to the Universities Provident Fund as well as of the Universities Pension Scheme, the contributors being 10% from the employee to the Provident Fund and 8% and 7% from the employer to the Provident Fund and Pension Fund respectively. A further contribution of 3% will be made by the employer to the Employees Trust Fund.

Other conditions of appointment will be in accordance with the provisions of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 and subsequent Amendments and Ordinances, By – Laws,  Regulations and Rules, etc. made there under.
