At present Departments of Botany, Chemistry, Geology,Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Physics, and Zoology in the Faculty of Science provide laboratory facilities to the postgraduate students of the PGIS to carry out their work. In addition for certain Courses/research programmes laboratories in other Institutions are also used by prior arrangement.
The PGIS is now located in its own 3-storey building in the peradeniya campus. The building  has facilities for a computer unit, laboratories, lecture halls, a reading room, common room etc.

Postgraduate students are provided with library facilities in the Library of the Faculty of Science. The library currently holds approximately 15,200 books, and 576 journal titles. In addition this library subscribes to 58 foreign and 26 local journals annually. The library has a thesis collection of about 130. Audio visual facilities are available with 85 video cassettes and 22 audio materials. Further arrangements can be made to use the Main Library, Medical Library, Engineering Library and Agriculture Library of the University of Peradeniya. The PGIS may also organize access to other libraries in Sri Lanka by prior arrangement through relevant institutions.

The Health Center headed by the Chief Medical Officer, provides preventive and curative health care to the university community including the postgraduate students. A 24 hours' medical service catering also to emergencies is provided by the Health Center. Cases which cannot be handled at the Health Center are referred to the General Hospital, Peradeniya or the General Hospital , Kandy.
