POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE COURSE IN
ADVANCED ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

17th March – September 2012
(Saturdays from 1000 to 1500 hrs)

Applications are called for the above Postgraduate Certificate Course organized by the Board of Study in Chemical Sciences of the PGIS.

The course will provide an opportunity to those who wish to acquire competence in Advanced Organic Chemistry. The course will be useful specially for General Degree or Applied Science students to gain an in depth knowledge of organic chemistry for postgraduate studies in the areas related to organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, natural products, pharmacognosy, biological chemistry, chemical ecology, etc. locally or abroad. The course is compulsory for PGIS students registered for M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in areas related to organic chemistry.The course will cover important and key concepts upon which modern studies in organic chemistry are based.

Course contents (60 hrs - 4 credits):
    Advanced Spectroscopy and Separation Techniques (15 hrs),
    Biomolecules and Biosynthesis (15 hrs),
    Organic Synthesis and Drug Design (15 hrs),
    Structure, Reactivity and Stereochemistry (15 hrs),
    Tutorial Discussions and Seminar Presentation

Venue:
Lectures will be conducted at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, and Postgraduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya

Time:
Saturdays from 1000 to1500 (4 hours) starting from 17th March 2012.

Minimum Qualification Required:
B.Sc. General Degree or equivalent qualification with Chemistry as a subject

Rs. 12,500.00
